A Game of Thrones: The Board Game – Digital Edition is the digital version of the iconic board game set in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe by George R.R. Martin. Originally released by Fantasy Flight Games, it is digitally adapted by Dire Wolf, a studio specializing in this type of project, with digital versions of the North Sea Sagrada and Raiders games.

Story
The action of the game takes place after the death of King Robert Baratheon. On the Westeros map, we represent one of the great families of the Seven Kingdoms and race for the Iron Throne as we wait for the winner in King’s Landing. Not only do we like it, it is a struggle for power, therefore there are plots and intrigues, battles and arms races, as well as concern for the economy known from books and series.

Mechanics
The beginning of the game is the time to choose the house we want to represent. And so we choose between Lannisters, Starks, Greyjoys, Martells, Tyrells and Baratheons. Each one starts in a different location on the Westeros map that corresponds to their clan’s headquarters, has different starting resources and generals with different skills. The game is divided into 10 rounds during which players perform both open and hidden actions. Hidden actions involve all players playing special tokens on their armies at the beginning of each turn, revealing them and carrying out orders in order depending on the player’s initiative level. Our military may consist of infantry, knights, siege engines, and ships, and each type has a different strength. We use units to conquer new territories and defend against attacks by other players. During the battle, the player whose military strength is greater wins, but the result can be defeated by special cards of our clan.

And just like in the Game of Thrones series, its board version could not lack intrigue, manipulation and shaky alliances, because there can be only one winner. Therefore, long conversations between players and setting the terms of the alliance, as well as bad behavior with artificial intelligence are allowed.

In addition to fighting for the throne, players have one more goal in common: working together to supply power tokens to power the Night’s Watch, tasked with observing the ice wall to keep the wild Free People from civilized Westeros.

A Game of Thrones: The Board Game – Digital Edition is a title intended for network games for 6 players, but if we decide to play alone, we can replace living opponents with artificial intelligence.
